Environmental Invention: Closing the Material Loop
At INCOM Leone, we have developed an innovative process that utilizes by-products from ice cream and chocolate production as a substrate for biogas plants. These by-products, which would typically be classified as waste, are transformed into a valuable resource for generating biogas.
The innovation adopts a circular approach that links the food and energy industries, facilitating the conversion of various organic residues into valuable energy sources. The primary target market consists of biogas plants, which are on the rise due to the growing demand for renewable energy. Additionally, the food and agricultural industries are increasingly focused on minimizing their environmental impacts. The value chain includes efficient waste management, energy production, and emission reduction.
The solution has been successfully implemented in real-world systems, proving effective and reliable. This approach not only eliminates waste and greenhouse gas emissions but also generates economic benefits from byproducts.
We received an award for our development activity in the field of circular economy for 2024 from the Styrian Chamber of Commerce. This recognition is for our invention titled “Market Use of a By-Product of Ice Cream and Chocolate Production for Energy Generation Purposes – Introduction of the Process into Real Systems.”
